Now Hiring: Lake Nona Doctors Wanted

If you look good in a white lab coat or consider a stethoscope a must-have accessory, Orlando is becoming a prime job market.

It’s not often that this city is touted as a leader in new high-wage jobs, but the region is poised to grow its image as a medical cluster over the next 18 months.

As many as 1,700 new jobs are up for grabs now or coming soon as two new hospitals prepare to open in Lake Nona’s “medical city.”

Nemours Children’s Hospital and the Orlando VA Medical Center have started hiring for the new facilities, which are both scheduled to open in the fall of 2012.

Jobs Available Despite Record Unemployment

When it comes to unemployment, Central Florida is setting records.

In the metro Orlando area, unemployment reached 12.4 percent in February, which is the highest rate since 1975.

Experts said they believe there are jobs available, and those who are unemployed should keep looking.

“There are construction projects going on, big ones,” Workforce Central Florida representative Gary Earl said.
Earl readily admitted construction took the biggest hit when the economy tanked, but he also said the new Amway Center and medical development at Lake Nona have all created opportunity.

“Hopefully, in the next three to six months, we’ll see (unemployment) peak and start to crawl back down a little bit, but in saying that, I would emphasize crawl. I think it’s going to be a very slow process,” Earl said. “Even if we had money to invest, I would probably wait to see what the economy will do before you stick your neck out.”

Introducing the Lake Nona Job Board – Free Job Postings All Week

In anticipation for the projected new jobs in Lake Nona, and specifically in Medical City, NarcoosseeFL has launched the new Lake Nona Job Board. There’s not much there now, as we launched the site only a few hours ago, but we feel this job board will serve as the first place job seekers and employers will go to find or fill jobs.

For the first week, we are offering 3 free job postings to all employers. If you have a position to fill, visit the job board, and create your listing. When it asks you to pay, just close out of the window, and we’ll waive the fee. The job listing will remain live for 30 days, at which time you can renew for $30 for an additional 30 days.

We hope to add a place for applicants to post their resumes, but that may end up somewhere on the regular NarcoosseeFL site.

Lake Nona’s Medical City – Nemours Children’s Hospital Begins Construction

Thursday morning, construction crews began the very first stages of building the new, state-of-the-art, 95-bed Nemours Children’s hospital in Lake Nona’s Medical City. Workers began by laying the groundwork, including underground piping and utilities.

In addition to healthcare, this project will create jobs and a lot of them. During the construction phase alone, there will be 5,000 jobs created.
