192 Advisory Group Has New Focus

The Osceola County Commission adopted a resolution Monday to create a new advisory committee that will be responsible for helping to form a plan to enhance the aesthetics and business viability of areas along U.S. Highway 192 and several roadways connecting to it.

The commission’s action officially formed the Gateway Advisory Committee, which replaced the former East 192 Enhancement Advisory Committee. The motion was necessary to broaden the focus on identifying concerns along the various roads leading into the county, including East U.S. Highway 192, West U.S. Highway 192, Orange Blossom Trail and Narcoossee Road, county officials said. The previous committee only focused on the area along East U.S. Highway 192 from Michigan Avenue in Kissimmee to Canal C31 in St. Cloud.

The committee will have 10 members; six have been appointed by the County Commission already while the cities of Kissimmee and St. Cloud have yet to appoint two representatives each. All appointments will be for four years and no committee member may serve more than eight consecutive years.

Dozens arrested in Osceola Zero Tolerance Operation

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) – Osceola County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 75 people and issued 275 citations during Operation Zero Tolerance last week in Narcoossee, St. Cloud, and the rest of Osceola County.

On November 5 and 6 deputies from all areas of the agency including aggressive driving, agriculture/marine, aviation, communications, criminal investigations, community response team, evidence, forensics, tourist policing, motors, K-9, narcotics enforcement team, reserves, robbery, traffic and warrants worked all areas of the county. In addition, other local agencies including the Osceola County Corrections Department and Juvenile Probation assisted.

Osceola County School District using Twitter To Enhance Communication Efforts

The Osceola County School District is now using Twitter to keep parents, students and the public informed of the latest news from the district.
Future “tweets” will include emergency notifications, School Board meeting notices and events, information on new academic programs and services, and more. This new communications vehicle will supplement the district’s ongoing communication efforts, which include the Web site, district print and electronic newsletters, automated phone messages and more.

Biodiesel plant burns in Osceola County

Flames turned a biodiesel plant just outside of St. Cloud into rubble today, but no one was injured, Osceola County officials said.

The fire leveled a concrete building and a collection of fuel tanks along Nova Road, belonging to B&J Site Development and New Eden Energy LLC.

An Osceola County spokeswoman said that the plant housed 3,000 gallons of methanol, 500 gallons of sodium methane, 55 gallons of sulfuric acid and 4,000 gallons of biodiesel.

Biodiesel is a renewable fuel source that is created by chemically treating oil, fat or recycled restaurant grease, according to the National Biodiesel Board.

The recycled material is treated with alcohol or sodium methane which act as a catalyst during the treatment, according to a spokeswoman at the National Biodiesel Board.
